Rootsoul Productions was started in 2002 by Chicago native Tammy Harris, who successfully built a network of Grammy Award-nominated and winning artists and producers. Tammy’s team includes artists who have toured and recorded with many mainstream industry professionals. The team specializes in helping creatives achieve their unique sound, whether as an artist or enthusiast crafting a special gift for a loved one.

At the start and prior to the introduction of Neo-Soul, music was shifting, reflecting more sequencing and programmed sounds. Tammy has always loved the sound of live instruments and was focused on creating music that retained components of that authentic nature. The sound of live instruments is timeless and never dated by a passing fad sound. During that shift, lyrics were also less of a focal point as the songs became more about having a great beat or catchy hook. Rootsoul committed to creating timeless songs and not just songs for a moment. The best songs, the enduring songs, have three key components: strong musical content, great melody, and strong lyrics.

Tammy’s artistic style is a smooth blend of traditional R&B Soul music fused with elements of Jazz & Funk. Old school at the core, her style has been described by many as reminiscent of the timing of Phyllis Hyman, the vibrato of Stephanie Mills and Randy Crawford, a waver like Denise Williams and the class of Nancy Wilson. While Tammy’s style is definitely old school, we focus on creating the sound that fits the artist.

Tammy received an honorable mention in the John Lennon Songwriting contest in 2002 for her songs “Only to You” and “I’m Through; I’m Done.” She also received several nominations in the LA Music Awards for her songs “Come Over” and “If”. The LA Music Awards is in its 17th year and has some very distinguished past nominees including The Black Eyed Peas, Gwen Stefani and No Doubt, Sugar Ray, Hoobastank and more. Tammy has reached the Broadjam top 10 with her song “Come Over” on the R&B, R&B Soul, Illinois, and Midwest charts. “Come Over” also reached #1 on the R&B Soul Charts for Broadjam. Tammy was also recognized in the Song of the Year Songwriting Competition as a Finalist for “Come Over” in August 2006, Runner- up for “Baby I Need You” in November 2006, and Suggested Artist for “You Are” in June 2007.

Live performances became the focus until 2015 and after a bit of a hiatus since that time, Rootsoul is busier than ever. With Tammy’s Summer 2019 release of her latest project, “Love”, Tammy is reconnecting with her love of music. This project features Grammy-award winning musicians and seasoned artists who have toured with many established artists including Miles Davis, Michael McDonald. D’Angelo, Beyonce, Brian Culbertson and more. The remix of “Come Over” was completed by The Remix King, Grammy award-winning Maurice Joshua and Rob Diggy whose credits include the Grammy-winning re-mix of Crazy in Love for Beyonce.

More is on the horizon for Rootsoul including working on projects for several aspiring artists, a new Spring 2020 project focused on the celebration of several Chicago based artists, Spring 2020 musical production, and it’s very first movie project! Stay connected with Rootsoul by signing up for the updates, performances, new releases and more.
